Do you find this upsetting? Should I apologize to my mother or tell her to suck it up?

You should let your mother know that you love her and you appreciate her opinion and understand her reasons behind disliking that part but you don't have the same belief when it comes to that subject. Then play the guilt card by telling her that you really thought she'd be happy for you, what with your "dreams coming true" and you're really hurt by how unsupportive she's being. Don't suck it up for her and definitely don't apologize--you did nothing wrong! Anyway, the storyline sounds wonderful! I would definitely pay money to see that!
