Ow is this storyline for a high school novel in junior year?

It sounds like an interesting book, but the beginning seems pretty sad, so make sure there's something in it that makes you want to keep reading. I would read it, but only if the romance part at the end was good. I didn't understand the part about the Club, or meeting Laura. But good luck writing it!
