Why does my tongue always look so dirty?

This might be a silly question but I was just wondering why my tongue always looks dirty? Even after a good cleaning with my toothbrush it still looks a little dingy and grayish. My sisters tongue on the other hand looks very clean even after not scrubbing it for two days :(
